There are accessories you buy — and accessories you notice. The Aurex Braided Set belongs to the second category. The hand-braided center section of the collar is not a decorative element — it is proof of craftsmanship precision, where every leather strand is braided and fixed under even tension. The large solid brass O-ring center makes a statement reminiscent of classic equestrian and hunting equipment. Collar and leash share the same braid structure, the same hardware, the same language.

Material & Craftsmanship

Both components are made from vegetable-tanned full-grain cowhide leather — unsplit, unbuffed, in its most natural form. Tanning with plant tannins from quebracho and chestnut bark makes the leather free of chromium(VI) compounds and compliant with the REACH Regulation. This leather becomes softer with use, not more brittle — a quality characteristic that synthetic materials never achieve.

The seven-strand braid on the collar and the three-strand braid on the leash are hand-worked — each strand is individually cut, dampened, and braided under even tension before being stitched and fixed. This technique, known from classic saddlery and Western riding, distributes pulling forces across multiple leather strands simultaneously and is therefore structurally stronger than a single-layer leather strap of the same width.

All seams are executed with waxed polyester saddler's thread in double stitch. The rivets in solid brass are hot-set — not cold-pressed — which guarantees a permanently firm connection without loosening.

Hardware & Fittings

The central O-ring on the collar, as well as the roller buckle, rivets, and carabiner clasp, are made from solid brass (CuZn37) with a natural surface. Solid brass develops a warm, deepened gold patina over time — a living material that responds to touch and weather, becoming more personal with every walk. The safety carabiner on the leash features a hardened steel spring and is tested to a breaking load of 176 lbs (80 kg).

Safety & Quality

The leather is tested for chromium(VI), azo dyes, formaldehyde, and pentachlorophenol. All metal fittings are nickel-free — suitable for dogs with sensitive or allergic skin. The braid structure distributes pulling forces across multiple strands simultaneously — under strong pulling it stiffens rather than giving way, providing maximum control without pressure peaks at the dog's neck.

Size Guide

Measure your dog's neck circumference carefully. When between sizes, choose the larger size for optimal wearing comfort.

Available Colors

Black, Brown — both with naturally patinated solid brass hardware. Both colors are permanently fixed with REACH-compliant reactive dyes.

Care

Wipe down with a dry cloth after walks. Occasionally loosen the braid by hand if it has tightened due to moisture. Condition monthly with a pH-neutral leather balm on a beeswax base — work it into the braid especially to keep the leather supple. Do not polish the brass fittings — their patina is a quality characteristic. Do not machine wash.
