The Aurex Ceramic Bowl was developed with all of these details in mind — not as a food dish, but as a dining vessel. High-temperature fired stoneware, a pore-free reactive glaze, an ergonomically elevated base. A bowl you do not hide when guests arrive.

Material & Craftsmanship

The bowl is made from stoneware ceramic, fired at 1260 °C — a high-temperature firing process that fully vitrifies the clay matrix and produces a water absorption rate of under 0.5%. For comparison: ordinary earthenware ceramic is fired at 1000–1100 °C and has a water absorption rate of up to 15% — meaning bacteria, odors, and food residue can penetrate the material. With Aurex stoneware, that is physically impossible.

The glaze is a feldspar-based reactive glaze — during firing, the glaze components react with the stoneware to create a chemically bonded, pore-free seal. This glaze class is tested to EN 12875 (European standard for food contact materials) — completely free of lead, cadmium, barium, and other heavy metals. The surface is scratch-resistant, dishwasher-safe, and retains its smoothness even after hundreds of cleaning cycles.

Design & Ergonomics

The elevated base with a wide foot ring raises the bowl rim to a height that places the cat's cervical spine in a natural, slightly lowered position during eating — without forcing the head fully downward. Veterinarians particularly recommend elevated bowls for cats with megaesophagus, arthritis, or chronic neck tension. The wide, shallow bowl shape with a generous diameter prevents so-called Whisker Fatigue — the stress cats experience when their sensitive whiskers constantly touch the bowl walls during eating.

The organically rounded outer profile and matte reactive glaze in warm earth tones fit any interior — from a minimalist city apartment to a nature-inspired country home.

Safety & Quality

Tested to EN 12875 (food contact materials) and EU Regulation 10/2011 — the strictest standards for materials in direct food contact. Free of lead, cadmium, barium, chromium(VI), and all other regulated heavy metals. The weight of the stoneware keeps the bowl stable — it does not slide during eating, even with lively cats.

Care

Dishwasher safe — top rack recommended for gentle cleaning. Do not use in the microwave. Allow to dry completely after cleaning. The reactive glaze requires no maintenance and does not lose its properties over time.
