Greyhounds, Whippets, Galgos — female dogs with narrow waists, deep chests, and little subcutaneous fat feel the cold faster than any other breed. A standard dog coat cut for a Labrador never fits a sighthound correctly — too wide at the belly, too tight at the chest, too short at the back. The Aurex Rain Coat was developed for exactly this silhouette: deep chest coverage, open belly, elasticated waist band, high neck collar with drawstring. A coat that fits like a custom piece — and protects like technical outerwear.

Material & Craftsmanship

The outer material is a 3-layer softshell laminate in 100% polyester (300D Oxford woven) — a composite construction in which a microporous TPU membrane (thermoplastic polyurethane) is laminated between the outer fabric and inner lining. This membrane works on the same principle as Gore-Tex: it has pores smaller than water droplets but larger than water vapor molecules — rain cannot enter, body moisture can escape. The result is a coat that is both waterproof and breathable.

The outer surface is treated with a fluorocarbon-free DWR finish tested to Oeko-Tex Standard 100 — raindrops bead off without affecting breathability. The brushed anti-pilling polyester fleece lining sits directly against the skin — soft, pilling-resistant, and heat-retaining without added weight. All seams are thermally sealed (tape-sealed) — no water entry through needle holes, no capillary effect along the seam line.

Cut & Function

The cut was developed exclusively for the sighthound silhouette — deep chest, narrow waist, long back. The elasticated waist band in ripstop rubber fabric adapts to body movement without slipping or digging in. The open belly design ensures hygiene and comfort for female dogs. The high stand-up collar with drawstring system protects the neck and throat in wind and rain and is steplessly adjustable. Reflective elements on the side seam lines provide visibility during evening walks — passive, no batteries, permanent.

Safety & Quality

All materials are tested for over 100 harmful substances to Oeko-Tex Standard 100 — free of azo dyes, formaldehyde, heavy metals, and allergenic disperse dyes. Particularly suitable for dogs with sensitive, thin skin — as is typical for short-haired sighthound breeds. The velcro closures and cord stoppers are tested for durability and cold resistance.

Size Guide

Measure chest circumference behind the front legs. Back length from center of neck to base of tail. When between sizes, choose the larger size.

Care

Machine washable at 86°F (30°C) with mild, phosphate-free detergent. Do not spin dry. Air dry only. After several washes, refresh the DWR finish with an Oeko-Tex certified waterproofing spray.
