There are pet baskets. And then there is the Aurex Teepee Tent. The difference lies not just in the design — it lies in the understanding. A tent that addresses the natural nesting instinct of dogs and cats and shapes it into a form that fits seamlessly into a well-kept interior. Solid pine wood, natural cotton canvas, a removable plush cushion. An object you do not push into a corner, but deliberately place.

Material & Craftsmanship

The frame is made from solid pine wood (Pinus sylvestris) with a rod diameter of 2.5 cm / 1 in — one of the toughest and most resilient softwoods in Europe, used for centuries in Nordic furniture and construction. The rods are secured at the tip with a braided cotton rope that remains shape-stable under tension and creates no chafing against the cover. No metal frame, no plastic — exclusively natural material that shows no fatigue even with daily assembly and disassembly.

The cover is made from 100% cotton canvas (approx. 280 g/m²) — a dense, plain-weave fabric regarded as standard in the leathergoods and outdoor industries for breathable, hard-wearing surfaces. The material is free of optical brighteners and azo dyes, skin-neutral, and tested for direct animal contact. The seams are executed with a reinforced double stitch — no fraying, no tearing even after repeated washing and jumping.

The included cushion is covered in long-pile plush (300 g/m², anti-pilling finish) and filled with hypoallergenic polyester hollow fiber that retains its loft structure even after multiple washes — non-clumping, non-sagging. The cushion cover is removable and machine washable at 86°F (30°C) on a gentle cycle.

Design & Function

The semi-open teepee shape is not purely aesthetic — it serves a behavioral function. Dogs and cats prefer sheltered resting spots with a restricted field of view from behind and the sides, known as denning positions, as these correspond to the natural resting behavior of their ancestors. The teepee provides exactly this structure: three enclosed sides, one open front, a covered sleeping area — the animal rests protected while still maintaining an overview of the room.

The tent assembles in under three minutes without tools and can be collapsed just as quickly — ideal for travel, visits, or seasonal redecorating. The three color variants Khaki, White, and Cream fit equally well into Scandinavian, Mediterranean, and classic modern interior styles.

Safety & Quality

The cotton canvas is tested for harmful substances to Oeko-Tex Standard 100 — one of the strictest certification systems for textiles worldwide, controlling over 100 chemical parameters including formaldehyde, heavy metals, and allergenic dyes. The pine wood is sealed with a water-based, low-VOC clear lacquer — no solvent odor, no off-gassing indoors, safe for direct skin contact. All metal hooks and eyelets are made from corrosion-resistant 304 stainless steel (Cr18Ni9 alloy).

Care

Machine wash the cushion cover at 86°F (30°C) on a gentle cycle — not dryer-safe, air dry only. Clean the canvas cover with a damp cloth or gently brush with a cold air setting. Keep the wooden frame dry and dust occasionally with a dry cloth. Do not place in direct permanent sunlight — UV exposure will gradually bleach the natural canvas colors over time.
