A Doberman, a Rottweiler, a Great Dane — large breeds carry their power with dignity. What they wear around their neck should do the same. The Aurex Wide Collar was not developed for the mass market. It was developed for dogs where a narrow collar simply fails — because it presses, digs in, or strains the larynx when pulling. With a width of 5 cm and a double-layer leather construction, it distributes every pulling force evenly across the entire neck area. The result: more control for you, more comfort for your dog.

Material & Craftsmanship

The collar consists of a double-layer full-grain cowhide construction — a build originating from classic horse tack manufacturing. The outer layer in vegetable-tanned full-grain leather forms a smooth, hard-wearing surface that repels moisture and develops a characterful patina over time. The inner layer in soft split leather sits directly against the dog's neck — smooth, seamless, without friction points.

The surrounding edge seam is executed with high-tenacity polyester saddler's thread — double-stitched, set under maximum tension. This stitching technique is known from the manufacture of firefighting equipment and climbing harnesses and is designed for pulling loads well beyond the normal dog collar range. Every edge is cleanly finished and rounded — no sharp cut that could chafe the coat.

Hardware & Fittings

The roller buckle and two D-rings are made from polished 304 stainless steel — corrosion-resistant, low-nickel at the contact area, and permanently attractive in appearance. The roller buckle — recognizable by the moveable axle within the buckle frame — significantly reduces friction during adjustment and protects the leather during daily putting on and taking off. The secondary D-ring serves as an additional attachment point for ID tags or a second leash connection.

Safety & Quality

The leather is tested for chromium(VI) compounds, azo dyes, formaldehyde, and pentachlorophenol — the four harmful substances standardly tested in leather products. All metal fittings are tested to a breaking load of 330 lbs (150 kg). The collar is designed for dogs with strong pulling and is built for daily use in all weather conditions.

Available Colors

Black, Brown — both with polished stainless steel hardware. Both colors are dyed with REACH-compliant reactive dyes and retain their depth even after years of use.

Care

Wipe down with a dry cloth after walks. For heavy soiling, clean with a slightly damp, lint-free cloth. Condition monthly with a pH-neutral leather balm on a beeswax base — this preserves the full-grain leather structure and promotes natural patina development. Polish the stainless steel fittings with a dry microfiber cloth.
