Material & Craftsmanship

The leather is vegetable-tanned full-grain cowhide — hand-selected using the techniques of traditional European saddleries. Full-grain leather means: no buffing, no correcting, no surface treatment. Only the finest base material qualifies. Tanning is done exclusively with natural plant substances — free of chromium(VI) compounds, free of synthetic plasticizers, compliant with the REACH Regulation.

The characteristic contrast stitching is executed with waxed saddler's thread in high-tenacity polyester yarn — a stitching technique originally developed for horse tack and riding equipment, designed to last for decades. Every seam sits evenly, every stitch is set under tension.

Hardware & Fittings

All fittings — carabiners, O-rings, and connecting links — are made from solid brass (CuZn37, red brass alloy), not chrome-plated zinc or aluminum. Solid brass develops a warm gold patina over time, remaining corrosion-resistant and nickel-free at skin contact areas. The safety carabiners with ribbed grip body can be securely opened and closed even with wet or gloved hands — a detail you only appreciate when it rains.

The leather is tested for chromium(VI), azo dyes, and formaldehyde — the critical harmful substances most scrutinized in leather products. All carabiners are tested to a breaking load of 264 lbs (120 kg) and approved for dogs up to 66 lbs (30 kg). The leash is constructed so that no seam, rivet, or fitting fails under normal load — safety through material choice, not compromise.

Technical Details

Care

Wipe the leather down with a dry cloth after walks. Condition monthly with a pH-neutral leather balm on a beeswax base — this maintains suppleness and promotes natural patina development. The brass fittings will develop a warm gold patina over time — a sign of genuine quality to be appreciated, not polished away.
