Aurex Slow-Feeder Ceramic Bowl — Pearl Glaze
Eat slower. Digest better. Live longer.
Cats that empty their bowl in seconds are not doing their health any favors. Eating too fast leads to air ingestion, vomiting immediately after meals, poor nutrient absorption, and long-term strain on the digestive system. The Aurex Slow-Feeder Ceramic Bowl solves this problem through geometry: concentric groove rings that divide the food into narrow circular channels, forcing the cat's tongue to work in small, precise movements. The result is a feeding speed up to 8 times slower — without stress, without frustration, without restriction. And in a form that looks just as good on a kitchen counter as it does in a design catalog.
Material & Craftsmanship
The bowl is made from stoneware ceramic, fired at 1260 °C — a high-temperature firing process that fully vitrifies the clay matrix and produces a water absorption rate of under 0.5%. The characteristic pearl reactive glaze is created by the controlled addition of metal oxides — titanium dioxide and zirconium dioxide — into the glaze mass before firing. As these oxides melt at over 1200 °C, microscopic crystal structures form within the glaze that refract light at different angles, producing the distinctive shimmering pearl effect. This glaze class is tested to EN 12875 and EU Regulation 10/2011 — completely free of lead, cadmium, and heavy metals.
The concentric groove rings are worked into the soft clay body during throwing — they are an integral part of the ceramic wall, not an applied structure. The glaze fully seals the inner surfaces of the grooves as well — no micropores, no cracks, no spots where food residue could become trapped.
The Slow-Feeder Groove Structure
The concentric groove rings divide the bowl surface into narrow, circular feeding channels. The cat must guide its tongue precisely between the rings — a motorically more demanding movement than simply licking a flat surface. This slowdown reduces air intake during swallowing, prevents post-meal vomiting, and improves nutrient absorption through longer saliva contact time. Veterinarians particularly recommend slow-feeder bowls for cats with megaesophagus, chronic vomiting, and obesity.
Whisker-Friendly Design
The flat, wide bowl shape with a low profile (3 cm height) is deliberately designed for cats with sensitive whiskers. When eating from deep, narrow bowls, the vibrissae (whiskers) constantly touch the bowl walls — a stimulus known as Whisker Fatigue that can lead to loss of appetite, stress, and behavioral problems. The Aurex Slow-Feeder Bowl eliminates this problem entirely: the whiskers remain free, and the cat eats relaxed and at its own pace.
Safety & Quality
Tested to EN 12875 and EU Regulation 10/2011. Free of lead, cadmium, barium, and heavy metals. The stoneware body makes the bowl stable — no sliding even with enthusiastic eaters. Scratch-resistant, dishwasher-safe, permanently hygienic.
